Have two bands who admire each other's work each do a cover of their favorite song by the other group. The more different the genres or unique the individual groups' sounds, the better.

A yearly music collection of the best songs by all the famous musicians who died that year. They would generate unique, cross-genre collections that exposed new generations to great music and musicians of all kinds.
