More than many other things that America needs, is at least one more viable political party to challenge the false dichotomy of the left and right, the liberals and conservatives, the Democrats and the Republicans.
I propose we make the next great party the Purple People’s Polling Party.
Build the party around just one thing: Doing the direct will of the American people as expressed through reliable, large-scale, equitable polling.
Nominate, run, and elect politicians who do nothing but what those polls tell them is the will of the people.
We already have the polls. Solid, often overwhelming, majorities of Americans want common-sense gun control, abortion rights, universal healthcare, free and fair elections, action against climate change, and so many other things that the politicians they (for some reason) keep electing are well aware of, but simply ignore.
The only platform of the Purple People’s Polling Party would be that it won’t ignore the actual will of the actual people that they were elected to represent.
Good idea!
