Author's Note: Many of the problems we face as adults are just variations on those we deal with as children. So too are many of the solutions. “Mom! Chrissy took my game!” “No I didn’t!” She paused in her furious attack upon the carrots on her chopping board. The third siren would sound off any … Continue reading Peace

The World Is More Than Your Experiences
It seems that it’s far too easy for people to fall into thinking that their experiences and the way they look at life because of them are universal. (Thinking that they should be universal is a whole other fallacy that I may have to speak to at another time.) This is a view that inevitably … Continue reading The World Is More Than Your Experiences
Climbers Anew
(Swallowtail Butterflies) Author's Note: This is my first attempt at a form of poetry that, to the best of my knowledge, I invented. I call them Scramble Poems. Full rules are below, but basically, every word can be made only of the letters in the title of the poem. Limber climbers Climb lime n lemin … Continue reading Climbers Anew

Impasse
Autor's Note: My first stab at microfiction. I think there is so much more story in these words than the words actually say. “If you loved me, you’d fight for me,” she said with wounded tears in her eyes. “If you loved me,” he replied with false stoicism, “I wouldn’t have to.”
Candy Grahams
Candy-covered graham cracker snacks. There are already chocolate covered graham crackers, which are delicious. But it seems like a huge missed opportunity that there isn't a whole line of snacks here. Beyond the existing chocolate, dark chocolate, and chocolate/peanut butter flavors, there could be white chocolate, peppermint bark, s'mores, and various candy bar flavors like … Continue reading Candy Grahams
Drive By
Autor's Note: This one is from my college days, written as an allegory on the senselessly destructive things we do to each other. With sweat-slicked fur and wildly searching, fear-widened eyes the possum slips on some unseen obstacle and slides headlong into a shallow gulch filled with loudly crackling leaves and popping twigs -- remnants … Continue reading Drive By
Floating Hairstyles
Incorporate helium balloons into braids or ponytails to make them float around the wearer's head. Use small round ones at the ends of the braids and/or long thin ones woven into the hair. Add wire to shape the floating braids into zig-zags, spirals, helixes, or other designs.
Hate and Fear and Anger
The recent passing of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 brought with it the inevitable lamentations for our loss of the national unity that welled up in the aftermath of that tragic day. I saw several variations on the idea of "I wish we had the America of September 12th" ... Instead, presumably, of the bitter … Continue reading Hate and Fear and Anger
Because
Author's Note: One of my many professional stops along the way was as a middle school teacher. I was a poor fit in a less-then-stellar school, and only lasted two years before walking away. But I felt this, as I believe all teachers do. I encounter, each day, Scores of young adults, Thirteen, fourteen, or … Continue reading Because
