I believe most anyone, regardless of political affiliation, can understand the truth of the old adage “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
Given that fact, it is more than reasonable to ensure that power is limited, controlled, and policed in all cases. And absolute power should be denied absolutely.
And while “time is money” is true in its own sense, in this context, time is power.
Thus, time corrupts. And absolute time corrupts absolutely.
To limit power, and limit corruption, then, we must limit the time people spend in power.
As such, term limits are essential in all positions of power.
All terms of service at every level of power should have a defined end date. Otherwise, they are by definition unlimited — in time, in power, and (inevitably) in corruption.
